HRI Regulatory Review with EPA

On September 9, 2020 Hampford Research Senior EHS&S Engineer Tim Hampford participated in a conference call with EPA staff to discuss industry’s concerns regarding upcoming revisions to fees for Section 5 new chemical submissions. The call was organized by SOCMA (Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates) and included three SOCMA representatives, two industry representatives, including Hampford, and eleven staff members from the EPA office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention.

SOCMA and the industry representatives provided insight into how these increased fees have inhibited new product development and experimentation for small batch chemical manufacturers.  The discussion was open and constructive, with the EPA asking pointed questions to the industry representatives, whose answers provided the regulators a better understanding of how increased fees have negatively impacted small and medium sized chemical manufacturers.
