Employee Engagement
Employee engagement has become one of the hottest trends in corporate America and is a key indicator in gauging workplace satisfaction. In today’s business world employees look for more than just a 9-to-5 job; they want to be involved in their work, enthusiastic about the organization they work for, and committed to their fellow workers.
Despite the recent focus on employee engagement, surveys shows that more than 35% of American workers report they are disengaged at work. A disengaged employee may be someone doing the bare minimum, or even actively damaging the company’s work output and reputation.
An engaged employee, on the other hand, has a positive attitude towards the organization and its values and is enthusiastic about their work. Leaders at organizations with high employee engagement view engagement as a strategic business objective as engaged employees lead to long-term employee retention, higher levels of productivity, and improved quality of work. Moreover, companies with engaged employees consistently have better financial performance than those with less engaged workforces!
Employee engagement is often assumed to depend solely on compensation however there are three factors that have greater impact on overall employee satisfaction:
- Trust in the company’s leadership
- Employee relationships with the management teams/supervisors, and
- Employee pride in being part of the company.
HRI has been measuring Employee Engagement for the past six years, and as with all of our company values, we aim for continuous improvement. Our annual assessment focuses on the five concentration areas that are aligned with the three factors listed above. They are Accountability, Alignment, Collaboration, Communication and Relationships.
We are proud that our Employee Engagement score has improved in each of the past six years, and is currently at 87%, which is well above the national average for companies who have been measuring engagement for as long as we have. By focusing each year on a few areas we have steadily improved the morale – and engagement – of our employees. We believe that commitment allows us to provide our customers with the quality products and service they have come to expect from Hampford Research while at the same time creating a fun and rewarding workplace.
